When I paint a moving subject from life such as the changing light, it absorbs my attention.  I paint portraits of trees, water, rocks, and animals. I try to empathize with everything. What is occurring in nature is important to me: reflections on water, the moving sky, the seeming stillness of rocks, the holes in dirt that worms crawl through, and finding breath in space like the white surfaces on my paper which I leave blank for possibility. I enjoy being both loose and precise in my work. It is the result of the desire to capture a moment and yet also follow a stroke of paint to where it is going. Time moves so quickly, the experience of being and connecting with nature and loved ones through painting feels worthwhile.
