When I paint a moving subject from life such as the changing light, it absorbs my attention. I paint portraits of trees, water, rocks, and animals. I try to empathize with everything. What is occurring in nature is important to me: reflections on water, the moving sky, the seeming stillness of rocks, the holes in dirt that worms crawl through, and finding breath in space like the white surfaces on my paper which I leave blank for possibility.
